As of May 2014, the Lemhi County Historical Society has raised just over $60,000.00 for the Salmon Grange Restoration Project.  The roof has been replaced, the ceiling is currently being restored to its original height, an ADA compliant bathroom and ramp are being installed, and the hardwood floor will be refinished, soon.  We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have contributed to this point. We hope to be using the building within the next few months.

Dr. Herman Ronnenberg, Professor Emeritus at the University of Idaho, will present “Brewed in Idaho,” a history of the brewing industry as it developed and thrived in the Gem State  This event, open to the public and free of charge, will be held Thursday, June 19^th at 7:00 PM, at the Lemhi County Museum, 210 Main Street.  Refreshments will be served.

Dr. Robert C. Sims, Professor Emeritus at Boise State University, will present “Art in the Camps,” a history of art creation in the World War II era Japanese-American Internment Camps.  This event, open to the public and free of charge, will be held Thursday, June 5^th at 7:00 PM, at the Episcopal Parish Hall, 204 Courthouse Drive. Refreshments will be served.

Come out to the Salmon Select Mule Sale on April 11 and enjoy a delicious pulled pork sandwich with all the fixings at the Historical Society Food Booth. This will be our second annual fundraiser at the Sale. All proceeds will be used for the Salmon Grange Restoration Project. The booth will be open from 11:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. or until the food is gone.

April’s luncheon will be held at the Museum at noon with a change in format. It will be a ‘bring your own’ brown bag event since members will be busy preparing for the Mule Sale food concession the next day; there’s only so much cooking we can do…

We will have two guest presenters:  Allen Pinkham and Steven Evans, authors of Lewis and Clark Among the Nez Perce: Strangers in the Land of the Nimiipuu. Lewis-Clark State College is sponsoring this program in conjunction with the Idaho State Historical Society’s Lewis and Clark Trail Committee (that includes two of our members, Bob Russell and Gina Knudson). It will, of course, be free of charge. Hope to see you there.

Brown Bag lecture slated for April 10th at the Lemhi County Historical Museum

If you have ever wondered about the Nez Perce interpretation of Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery, join authors Allen Pinkham and Steve Evans as they discuss the fifteen years of research and tribal memories that went into their newly released book, Lewis and Clark Among the Nez Perce:  Strangers in the Land of the Nimiipuu.  The authors will present at the Brown Bag Luncheon at 12:00 noon on April 10, 2014, at the Lemhi County Historical Museum.  A book signing will follow the program with books available for purchase on site.  The program is free of charge to the public. The Lemhi County Historical Society’s responsibility to preserve, protect, exhibit, and interpret local and regional history has fostered two major preservation projects as the organization begins its 51^st year of service to this community.  The society is working to improve the museum for artifact safety and visitor enjoyment and striving to protect and restore a building important in the historical development of the City of Salmon and Lemhi County.  Continue reading →

The March luncheon meeting will be held on Thursday, March 13th, at noon at the Museum. The renowned Dr. Carrington will be offering a presentation on the historical evolution of medical education.  Hope to see you there.

The February Historical Society luncheon will be held on Thursday, February 20th, at noon, at the Museum. Local historian, Mike Crosby, will provide the presentation. We have a new sound system, thanks to the ingenuity of Dale Ford and Todd Nelson, so it will be much easier to hear. Come enjoy the new lighting system, installed by Mike Ernest Electric. With the setup of a more accessible seating arrangement, along with the new lights and sound, this is a must attend luncheon.
